Spinifex viert haar 20-jarig bestaan met hun nieuwe nieuw project SPINIFEX MAXXIMUS en gastmusici JessicaPavone, Elisabeth Coudoux en Evi Filippou!
Het Amsterdamse improvisatie-ensemble Spinifex viert zijn 20-jarig bestaan met de Nederlandse première van hun gloednieuwe project MAXXIMUS. Voor dit project werkt de band samen met drie gerenommeerde gastmuzikanten: altvioliste Jessica Pavone uit New York, de Keulse celliste Elisabeth Coudoux en de Griekse, in Berlijn woonachtige Evi Filippou (vibrafoon, percussie).
Een nieuwe akoestische dimensie
Spinifex staat bekend om zijn explosieve mix van free jazz, complexe ritmiek en gedurfde
improvisatie.

‘Met MAXXIMUS verkennen wij een akoestische klankwereld waarin de kleuren van
strijkinstrumenten, akoestische gitaar, basklarinet en vibrafoon samenkomen. Hoewel de
energie en de intensiteit kenmerkend blijven, verlegt Spinifex in deze nieuwe

Het project beleefde zijn wereldpremière op 3 april in het Budapest Music Center en
speelt op 6 juni op het prestigieuze Moers Festival in Duitsland. De Nederlandse
première volgt op maandag 9 juni 2025 in Splendor, Amsterdam.
In november 2025 verschijnt het album Spinifex MAXXIMUS bij Trytone, gevolgd door
een Nederlandse tournee, waarbij Podium JIN antuurlijk niet mag ontbreken.

• Elisabeth Coudoux combineert klassieke en vrije improvisatie om nieuwe
klankwerelden te verkennen.
• Jessica Pavone onderzoekt muziek als een zintuiglijke ervaring en heeft een
unieke benadering van altviool en compositie.
• Evi Filippou, gevestigd in Berlijn, beweegt zich tussen hedendaagse muziek,
improvisatie en muziektheater.
Over Spinifex
Sinds de oprichting in 2005 heeft Spinifex negen albums uitgebracht en opgetreden op
vooraanstaande festivals zoals North Sea Jazz Festival, 3 Tage Jazz Saalfelden (AT) en
Belgrade Jazz Festival. Het ensemble bestaat uit Tobias Klein (basklarinet,
altsaxofoon), Bart Maris (trompet), John Dikeman (tenorsaxofoon, bassaxofoon),
Jasper Stadhouders (gitaar), Gonçalo Almeida (contrabas) en Philipp Moser (drums).
Spinifex blijft grenzen verleggen door improvisatie en compositie naadloos te
combineren, waarbij elke uitvoering een viering is van muzikale vrijheid en innovatie.

Drummer and astro-physicist Philipp Moser is known for his work with Dutch progressive metal band Cilice. Guitarist Jasper Stadhouders sets the tone in the Amsterdam and Berlin underground. The Portuguese, Rotterdam-based bassist Gonçalo Almeida switches effortlessly between a beautifully rounded sound and heavy electric distortion. Tenor saxophonist John Dikeman has been impressing audiences performing with his trio with William Parker and Hamid Drake. Trumpet master Bart Maris has been a singular voice in European improvised music for some decades. Alto saxophonist Tobias Klein, the motor behind the band, has also made a name for himself as a bass clarinet player and composer.
